Mining area

Voivozi

Tags: Romania, Totally Lost 2013

Voivozi is located in Romania, Bihor county. It lies at the bank of the Bistra river, near the
Rez mountains. The ground in the area contains a lot of lignite and bituminoussand.
The people there mine these materials for nearly 140 years. Between 1950 and 1989 the
industry was strongly related to mining , in this period were built the area’s cultural and
social buildings. In 2004 the mining activity was completely stopped in Voivozi, so the
buildings related to mining were totally abandoned. The mining area’s office building can be
imagined as really good place for a horror movie, not as the most important workplace in an
industrial city.
