The cement factory complex was built in the early 20th century (1908) and has made a significant contribution to the economic development of Podsused. Its first owner was Zagreb resident Felix Mandl, and in its beginnings the factory operated under the name “Croatia”.
Rich in limestone and marl and in the proximity of traffic routes, this was the perfect location for the factory of this kind.

In the period after World War II the factory was nationalized and its name was changed to “Sloboda”(freedom). In the post-war period cement factory employed several hundred workers, and continued to work until 1987.

Nowadays the factory complex is considered a historic building complex of industrial architecture.
