This lakeside complex, originally a villa, was a Berlin’s gift to Joseph Goebbels (Haus am Bogensee).

After the Second World War, the building was handed over to the FDJ (a socialist youth organization), which set up its Youth Academy there. In the 1950s, the GDR leadership did remodel the adjacent terrain to a park- like setting with extensions in the style of Socialist classicism.

The architect Hermann Henselmann built the monumental ensemble in “gingerbread style” together with pompous meeting cultural halls.

Since 1999, the buildings are empty and the complex is for sale.
