When the construction of the People’s Palace began, Ceausescu wanted to build not only one of the largest building in the world, but also the safest. Having a big fear of elevators, he ordered a special tower designed only for elevator testing.
The result was the tallest elevator testing tower in Europe and also one of the most useless building since it lies in abandonment for more than 25 years.
